ABE - Human Resource Management

Introduction

Our new Human Resource Management programme is a professional QCA accredited qualification which reflects the growing importance that organisations attach to this function. At present demand for trained and qualified HR professionals is outstripping supply.

Students who complete our HRM programme will have the opportunity to advance to the final stages of a degree and will find their skills fit for a professional setting.

Entry Requirements:

Certificate

No formal qualifications are required but applicants should demonstrate competence in English by the attainment of one of the following:

  • British Council - Intermediate Certificate in English/Upper Advanced Certificate in English
  • LCCI - English for Business (EFB) 1st or 2nd level
  • Pitman/City and Guilds - English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/English for Business and Communication
Diploma

Applicants must have obtained one of the following:

  • ABE Certificate
  • Two "A" Level passes plus four GCSE passes at Grade A, B or C, two of which must be English and Maths
  • Overseas qualifications which may be accepted by the Registrar as being equivalent to the above
  • ABE also welcomes applications from candidates without formal qualifications who have been in appropriate employment for at least two years. A reference letter from employer(s) must accompany such applications
Advanced Diploma

Applicants must have obtained one of the following:

  • ABE Diploma
  • A UK Honours Degree or Overseas equivalent
  • Other recognised qualifications of approved Overseas Institutes of Higher Education

The decision of the Council as to the suitability of the candidate shall be final.

Registration:

All candidates must be members of the ABE. Once the students have enrolled at Scott's College London, they will be guided for registration.


Syllabus

1st Year:    Certificate Level

The four compulsory subjects are:

  1. Personnel Administration
  2. Managing People
  3. Introduction to Business
  4. Introduction to Business Communication

 2nd Year:    Diploma Level

Diploma Part 1
The four compulsory papers are:

  1. Organisational Behaviour
  2. Economics Principles and Their Application to Business
  3. Human Resource Management
  4. Human Resource Development

Diploma Part 2
The four compulsory papers are:

  1. Employment Relations
  2. People Planning and Resourcing
  3. Personnel Information Systems
  4. HRM in Action

Plus one from the following:

  1. Principles of Business Law
  2. Quantitative Methods for Business and Management

3rd Year:   Advanced Diploma Level

The five compulsory papers are:

  • Corporate Strategy and Planning
  • Managing in Organisations
  • Strategic HRM for Business Organisation
  • Performance Management and Reward
  • Managing Organisational Change and Development

Duration:

3 years

Pass marks :

Successful candidates will be awarded a graded pass in each subject. Credits or Distinctions will be awarded where applicable. All result slips show alphabetical grades; it is not the policy of The Association to disclose marks obtained.

Candidates will be allowed to resit any subject which they have failed but not subjects that they have passed.

Examinations :

The three-hour written examinations are held twice a year (usually first week in June and December). There is no limit to the number of subjects candidates may enter for but it is recommended that you sit no more than five subjects at one session.

The candidates need to register separately for the examination. The registration fee is charged per paper. The closing date of registration is two months prior to the actual examination date. The closing date is always displayed on the website and on the examination entry form.

Intake : January - February, June - July, August - September every year.

Career progression : After completing ABE course students can obtain their bachelor's degree at a number of UK and overseas universities.
