PG Dip in International Tourism and Hospitality Management

Course Overview

This Post-Graduate Diploma at master's level in International Tourism and Hospitality Management recognises the importance of tourism and hospitality as the world's largest industry by integrating latest teaching, research findings and industry expertise with core business management skills thereby equipping our graduates for a successful career in international tourism management. Here at Scott's College London, we will prepare you to meet that challenges to succeed in the skills and employment market place.

Aim of the Course

This programme aims to meet the needs of future professionals in public sector tourism management, e.g. National Tourist Boards, Regional Tourist Boards, public sector visitor attractions, private sector hospitality and tourism management, eg. hotels, visitor attractions and leisure organisations, tourism consultancy, tourism research and lecturing and management within tour and travel organisations. The course will provide you with the theoretical framework and practical skills that tourism and hospitality professionals working in sector need in order to cope with an increasingly complex and global international tourism and hospitality.

This programme aims to give students the opportunity to:

  • design, plan and implement tourism and hospitality strategies within both domestic and international contexts.
  • acquire a sound understanding and knowledge of contemporary tourism and hospitality issues.
  • manage and resolve complex issues both systematically and creatively and make sound judgements.
  • act autonomously and professionally in planning and implementing strategies.
  • fully develop the qualities and transferable skills, including initiative, decision-making and independent learning ability, necessary for today's global tourism and hospitality industry.
  • carry out tourism management functions to a high professional level.
  • develop a wide range of enterprise skills in the context of contemporary tourism and hospitality such as ebusiness, international developments and impacts.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants should usually hold a bachelors degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised British/overseas university in any subject or, alternatively, at least two years relevant work experience. Every applicant is assessed individually on their own merit. Higher level professional qualifications may also be accepted. Candidates for whom English is not their first language will normally be required to have taken an English language test and achieved a score of either TOEFL 600 or above, IELTS 6.5 or above, or Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English Grade B or above. This test must have been taken within two years prior to the start of the programme you are applying for. The business school also assists students whose first language is not English through close cooperation with the colleges English Language department.

Course Structure

This programme consists of six compulsory modules including a research project proposal in preparation for a master's dissertation. The course gives learners an optimal balance of theory and practice with an exposure to management leading-edge practices.

Progression

Students graduating from this course may continue onto masters (MSc /MBA) study but likewise might expect to enter industry not only as senior managers but also as strategists.
